Date reviewed: Monday 6th October 2025
Next review due: When guidelines change or Sept 2026
Purpose & Scope
At Hard At Work Tuition, we provide educational support and tutoring services. In all our work — in schools, students’ homes, or online — we are committed to keeping children and young people safe. We believe that every child has the right to grow up free from abuse, neglect, or exploitation, regardless of age, disability, gender, race, religion, or sexual orientation. This policy applies to all staff, tutors, volunteers, and associates working with us.
Legal Framework
We follow relevant legislation and statutory guidance, such as:
- Keeping Children Safe in Education
- Working Together to Safeguard Children
- The Prevent Duty
- Data protection, privacy and confidentiality laws
Our Commitments
We will keep children safe by:
- Listening to them, treating them with respect, and valuing their views
- Recording and storing any safeguarding concerns securely in line with data protection laws
- Making sure children and families know how to raise concerns
- Sharing concerns appropriately with safeguarding agencies and children’s services
- Ensuring a safe environment in all settings (in-person and online)
- Keeping up-to-date in safeguarding training and legal changes
- Recognising signs of abuse, neglect or harm
- Requiring a parent or trusted adult to be near during home or online work sessions
- Employing safe online practices that comply with relevant safeguarding and online safety guidelines
Acting on Concerns
If we notice signs such as changes in behaviour, unexplained injuries, or comments about abuse:
- We will listen calmly and seriously
- We won’t ask leading questions
- We will explain we may need to pass relevant information on for safety
- We will record the conversation factually — time, date, who was present, what was said
- We will report concerns to the designated safeguarding lead or children’s services as needed
Record-Keeping
We keep accurate records whenever safeguarding concerns arise, including:
- Child’s name, address
- Date, time of concern
- Details of what was observed or said
- Previous relevant information
- Actions taken and by whom
- Any explanations from parent/caregivers (where safe)
Records are stored securely and retained in line with legal requirements.
